Today, I have ventured into the wider world of complexity! Communicating with yet another mobile device and wondering if this new device will actually become a labor saving device or another time drain for me? The simple life appears to only exist in the movies or should I more correctly say media?
Lately my work focus has been driven by computer users. These individuals may be office workers, grad students, physicans or folks like my driven to keep up with modern expectations around busines presentation.
A device which now is expanding medical syndromes, is being pushed in media as common place in our modern life. The hand held computer is wowwing all of us. Then there is eye strain, neck pain, shoulder issues, tendonitis, addiction, just to name of few side effects to now deal with! What is a person to due? Let's not forgot the need for American productivity, that protestant work ethic which we admire so much.
To save time we now text one and other to avoid the complications of communication. To limit accessiblity we have to pay ever increasing amounts of money to have the service provided. Education is now being shifted to these devices. Have we asked the cost to ourselves and our children?
I see the unspoken cost in my massage practice as well as in my yoga students. For me,if I am to spend time in front of my computer I must stretch my hands continually. I must change the focus of my yoga practice to balance what this work does t me. In massage, I have to soften forearms and fingers just to get to rock hard necks and shoulders. Heads that constantly look down or are pulled forward, need to be pulled back into a more normal position.
Then there is relaxation or all the affected limbs. Should I continue? Am I being a pain in the neck? Or do you have a pain in your neck?
